An appeal has been lodged against a planning application for a new seven-storey hotel in Dungarvan.
A decision is expected from Waterford City and County Council by January 24th.
A planning application lodged by local businessman Michael Ryan seeks to demolish the former Glanbia laboratory and office quarters at the junction of Richard A. Walsh Street and Davitt’s Quay.
The building would be replaced with a hotel facility that includes 42 conventional hotel bedrooms and a similar number of aparthotel rooms.
The plans also include a penthouse suite, two function halls, a café and bar, a 48-space car park, and 26 bicycle bays.
An appeal was lodged on January 2nd by Michael Burke of Lawlor's Hotel on TF Meagher Street, Dungarvan.
He has objected to the application on six grounds - stating that it would be adverse to sustainable tourism due to its size and scale.
It's also claimed that the development would have an adverse impact on the architectural heritage of Dungarvan.
The appeal also claims the development disregards the Development Plan of Dungarvan 2018 and local businesses with no provision for car parking for staff, customers, and suppliers.
