Dungarvan's Christmas lights failed to live up to expectations again this year, according to a local councillor.
Labour's Thomas Phelan raised concerns over the standard of the lighting at the recent Dungarvan/Lismore district meeting of Waterford Council.
He previously raised issues following Christmas 2022 - and reiterated his call for a higher standard of festive lighting after Christmas 2023.
"They've maybe improved a little bit in recent years", said Cllr. Phelan. "I know there had been a lot of issues where we had been told that a lot of lights had come to end of life, but at the same time - I've never really been happy with the colour. They're kind of a cold white light. If you go to other towns, they're multicoloured or even just kind of a warmer colour. They're also not coming on early enough and often haven't been."
Thomas Phelan says the frequency with which the lights are turned on should be increased and he has also called for different colours to be used.
"We've never really got to grips with this", conceded Cllr. Phelan. "We're going to really have to - if we want to make Dungarvan an attractive place for people who are already here and people who are coming from elsewhere. We need to have better and really nice lights are not too much to ask for I would hope. I hope that we can keep on it."
