Derelict buildings in Waterford City need to be addressed. That's the message from local Councillor Eamon Quinlan, who says part of the Quay are in need of repairs.
Several units in the area are derelict, including a former pub and barbers. Cllr. Quinlan raised his concerns at a recent Metropolitan meeting of Waterford Council.
"I noticed the other day that an entire block on the Quay in Waterford city has fallen into dereliction, particularly the front block where Sals Pub used to be. Out of eight ground-floor commercial premises, six are in complete dereliction, the other two being a small barber and a casino.
"Can I please ask the derelict sites team to look into this, as when you drive into Waterford City you can't help but notice what appears to be tremendous dereliction on our Quays."
A representative from the local authority responded by saying the comments from Cllr. Quinlan has been taken on board, and investigations are underway, with several incidents logged.
