Death of well-known Waterford priest Fr Ray Liddane

The death has occurred of well-known and popular priest Fr Ray Liddane.

Fr Liddane died on Saturday January 11th at the age of 92.

He was ordained on June 19th, 1955 in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Waterford and served in Middlesbrough Parish from 1955 – 1960; Dunhill & Fenor 1960 – 1962; Ballybricken 1962 – 1968; and Tramore  1968 – 1979.

Fr Liddane was appointed Administrator of St Joseph's and St Benildus' & St Mary’s Parish from 1979 to 1985 and in 1985 became the first Parish Priest appointed to that parish.

He retired as Parish Priest in 2008, but continued to serve as an Associate Pastor until his death.

In a statement, the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore said he will be "sadly missed by his parishioners, his family and friends, by his brother priests and by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan."
