A cyclist had to be airlifted to hospital after colliding with another cyclist on the Waterford Greenway yesterday.
It happened just before noon, with the second person also receiving injuries.
Because of the location of the accident, the South Eastern Mountain Rescue were among the emergency services to respond.
Speaking to WLR News, SEMRA member, Chris Murray outlined the details of the call-out:
"At approximately 11.53am we received a call from the National Ambulance Service that there were two injured cyclists on the Greenway outside Lemybrien.
"Our members were dispatched - we had four members arrive on the scene and they worked alongside members of the Coastguard, the Ambulance Service, the Gardaí, and Rescue 117.
"One of the casualties was airlifted [to University Hospital Waterford] due to the injuries received, while the second was taken away by ambulance."
The accident happened just outside Lemybrien, near Ballylynch, where the terrain makes access slightly more difficult.
Chris says it isn't an area the Greenway isn't where the Mountain Rescue Association would normally get calls to:
"It would be unusual but it does fall into our area of operations. We generally work within the mountainous areas up the hills such as the Comeraghs, the Knockmealdowns, the Galtees, all the way up to the Slieveblooms.
"But we do cover the Greenway as well. There are areas of it that require certain access, or which would have difficult access I suppose, and we would have the experience and the vehicles to carry out such rescues."
