Officials at Waterford City and County Council's offices in Dungarvan have been asked to "take a walk" across the road to observe an area in need of improvement work.

Labour Councillor Thomas Phelan raised the condition of Richard A Walsh Street at the Dungarvan/Lismore District meeting of the local authority this week.

There have been ongoing calls for action on the Dun Aoibhinn apartment block which has been branded "an absolute disgrace".

"On the other side is a long line of, in parts, damaged building site fencing," said Cllr Phelan who also pointed out that street lights have been reported as out of action for some time.

"When it rains, water lodges at the pedestrian crossing at the roundabout in front of the Council office," he added.

"I ask that each of the people sitting at the top table take a walk across and see what role each of your departments has in improving it."

Aisling O'Sullivan from the Council's Planning Department agreed.

"The state of that street is not where we'd like it to be," she said.

"We are actively working on trying to get it sorted."
