Current estimates suggest it will take at least two months for Waterford Council to catch up on reported lighting outages across the Metropolitan District.
That's according to roads engineer with Waterford City & County Council, Roger Noonan.
At last Monday's meeting of the Metropolitan District of Waterford Council, local councillor Jason Murphy queried the efficiency of the public lighting service currently provided by Killaree Lighting Services in Kilkenny.
His queries were echoed by Cllr. Lola O'Sullivan who noted the outages which have been reported without resolution in Tramore.
In particular, Cllr. Murphy asked whether there were any sanctions in place for under-delivery of services contracted for.
These sentiments have been echoed in other district meetings of late, with some councillors calling for the removal of the contract from Killaree Lighting Services.
In response to concerns raised, Mr. Noonan said, "Killaree Lighting have two crews actively working both in the city and the environs, including Dunmore and Tramore working through these legacy lists."
Continuing, he said: "There is a good push one with them at present to tackle issues which have been there for a good while, and I anticipate that within the next two months they will have caught up on issues that have been there for quite some time."
