Conor McGregor has signed an agreement for a rematch against Dustin Poirier in January 2021.

The former two-weight UFC champion's last fight was an early knockout victory against Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas in January.

McGregor, 32, announced his next bout on his website The Mac Life today.

“I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again,” the Dubliner said.

“I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weaponry. Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.”

McGregor beat Poirier by TKO after one minute and 46 seconds in a 2014 bout.

According to McGregor's website, the fight will take place at 155lbs, most likely in Abu Dhabi.

McGregor announced he had 'retired' from the UFC in June after becoming frustrated at not being able to organise fights due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this is not the first time he has claimed retirement before returning to fight.

McGregor's rival Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement last month, two years after beating the Irishman in a lightweight title fight.

That ended in ugly scenes with members of both fighters' teams brawling in the Octagon.

There had been speculation that McGregor and Poirier would compete for the now-vacant lightweight title.

However, UFC president Dana White has dismissed this, claiming Nurmagomedov will come back for one last bout despite his retirement announcement.
