The Chairman of the group behind the proposals for wind turbines in County Waterford says this project offers a once in a generation opportunity for the parish.

BSB Community Energy will hold an information event in Barron Hall, Stradbally, on Thursday.
Following that they say modifications will be considered to ensure local acceptance of the project.

Paddy Power says they hope people will attend the information event and ask whatever questions they have.

People from the communities of Kilmacthomas, Stradbally, Ballylaneen, Kill, Bunmahon and beyond came together to voice their objection to the proposals yesteday.

Some parents have threatened to remove their children from local schools in the community.

 

BSB Community Energy say the turbine project could be worth 140 million euro to the local economy over thirty years.

Under the community benefit proposal, BSB say that individual local householders and community groups would gain to the tune of €350,000 per year from the windfarm.

This includes one thousand two hundred euro per house within 1 kilometre of a turbine and 500 euro a year between the remaining houses in the parish plus 70 thousand a year for a Community Benefit Fund.

Anne Troy of the Mahon Valley Group says there are other ways to get the communities behind green energy.
