Planning permission has been granted for a columbarium at the cemetery of St. Mary's Church in Ballygunner.
A columbarium is a structure for the public storage of funerary urns containing cremated remains.
The approved columbarium area in Ballygunner will be set back from the public road and the church and is situated in an open area in a central location in the cemetery.
There will be nine columbarium walls, at approximately 2 metres in height and 2.8 metres wide.
Fr Liam Power submitted the planning application to Waterford City and County Council on behalf of the Parish of St Joseph, St Benildus and St Mary’s, on December 12, 2023.
