Cocaine with an estimated street value of €36,000 has been seized by Gardai in Waterford.

An arrest has been made in relation to the seizure.

Chief Superintendent at Waterford Garda Station Anthony Pettit told yesterday's meeting of the Policing Authority that efforts have been ramped up to disrupt the sale and supply of drugs.

"We are satisfied that we know the identities of the vast majority of people who are involved in drug-dealing - or those who are intent in being involved with the sale and supply of drugs. That can range to a low level, which may be visible on our streets at times. The public will see people being searched, being arrested and brought through the courts. That may also come up a level. On Wednesday night, here in the city we had a seizure of cocaine to the value of €36,000 - and an arrest has been made in relation to that."
