A total of €279,500 has been allocated to seven communities in rural Waterford as part of the 2022 CLÁR scheme.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys and Senator John Cummins made the announcement on Thursday morning. He said:
“The funding announced today is further evidence of mine and this governments continued commitment to improving community facilities across rural Waterford. The €279,500 will support some amazing community organisations in seven areas across the county who are taking the initiative to improve their community”.
CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd Riachtanais) or Funding for Small-Scale Rural Projects is a targeted investment programme which provides funding for small-scale - infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered the greatest levels of population decline. CLÁR is just one piece of the Department’s Rural Development Investment Programme, which provides a package of coordinated and complementary supports for rural areas.
Senator Cummins said:
“I would like to thank all those involved in putting the applications together, it certainly makes my job easier in lobbying for funding when robust applications of merit are submitted. I also want to also compliment my Fine Gael colleagues in mid and west Waterford who advocated strongly on behalf for their communities for these funding allocations”.

Ithel McKenna from the Clashmore & Kinsalebeg Community Council told WLR that they were delighted with news of the announcement.
“You’re always looking for things for young people to do and to keep them in the community and to keep them busy and active. That was the plan when we applied for the funding and we’re now going to have a practice basketball court. Hopefully, this will attract young people to have another outlet for their energy and their wish to keep fit.”
Speaking at the announcement, Minister Heather Humphreys said:
“The budget for the CLÁR Programme 2022 has increased from €5.5 million to €7 million across three measures 1) Developing Community Facilities & Amenities; 2) Mobility, Cancer Care and Community First Responders Transport; 3) Our Islands. This particular announcement under my Department’s CLÁR Programme is another example of ‘Our Rural Future’ in action.
