Champion horse trainer Henry de Bromhead will receive the freedom of Waterford today.
He is one of the leading national hunt trainers in Ireland and has achieved enormous success from his yard at Knockeen in Butlerstown.
Winning his first Grade One race in 2008 with Sizing Europe, he has gone on to great heights in Ireland and the UK, culminating in an amazingly successful Cheltenham meeting this year where his horses won six races.
And not just any six races, but Chelthenham's holy trinity of races with Honeysuckle in the Champions Hurdle, Put the Kettle On in the Champion Chase and Minella Indo (pictured) completed the set with a one-two in the Gold Cup.
These great wins were swiftly followed three weeks later by another one-two, this time in the Aintree Grand National where the history-making jockey Rachel Blackmore became the first female winner of that race.
Henry joins a small but exclusive list of Waterford sportsmen who have been granted the Freedom of Waterford: Athlete John Treacy in 1979 and cyclist Sean Kelly in 1987.
The ceremony at Tramore Racecourse will take place behind closed doors, but will be streamed live on the Waterford Council youtube channel from 2pm.
