People are being urged to make sure their bicycles are secured overnight after a spate of bike thefts in Waterford recently.
In one incident on June 8th, four were taken from the one house on Priest's Road in Tramore.
Gardai recommend that people spend between 10 and 20 percent of the value of the bike on a good quality u-lock, and a cable lock. They advise locking it tightly to an immovable object, securing the wheels using a coil, cable lock or a chain.
Sgt Deirdre O'Neill, Crime Prevention Officer with Waterford Gardai added:
It's best to lock your bike indoors but if it is outdoors, secure it where it's well lit with CCTV, or where there's natural surveillance with lots of people passing by. Note your bike frame number and take a good photograph of it.
Sgt O'Neill also gave WLR details of some of the recent adult bikes that have stolen.
One is a grey Raleigh racer, and the others are a green Gepida mountain bike, and a black Orbea mountain bike.
