Campaign to make Waterford an Autism Friendly City

Campaign to make Waterford an Autism Friendly City

A campaign is underway to make Waterford Ireland's first Autism Friendly city.

Launching in the Tower Hotel on April 16, the event will be attended by representatives from national Autism charity, As I Am.

A group of local people working under the name 'Déise Circle Support Group' have been working on the campaign.

Group member Trish Holton told 'Déise Today' what an Autism Friendly city would require.

"We decided with a few different people that we would apply for it," she explains. "It involves training for different businesses, organisations, sports etc."

She added that they would also like to see an 'autistic champion' in various workplaces who will train people.
