The lack of engagement with people in Lismore in relation to a planned Direct Provision Centre is not acceptable.
So says Fiona Hurley, CEO of the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre.
She says people have been in touch with concerns regarding school and GP places.
Speaking to 'Deise Today', Fiona says community engagement has been recommended for years.
"For years, we have been pushing for government to have community engagement and to explain to communities what is happening," she says.
"We fully agree that there should be community engagement."
She pointed out that the government has put in place a fund for communities "doing their part" in accepting Ukrainians and international protection applicants.
