Those attending today's league clash of Waterford and Tipperary in Walsh Park are being urged to bring some spare change.

A bucket collection in aid of Ukraine (via the Red Cross) will take place just ahead of the game.

The idea was put forward by local councillor, John Pratt, who says he was approached by someone with an interesting proposal:

"A local guy in Dungarvan, who's actually a Tipperary man, got on to me on Facebook and asked would I put on a Tipperary jersey and he would be the first to donate €50, in conjunction with the Red Cross, to go to Ukraine.

"And of course, I said yes, no problem. And then I started thinking that we could do more with this.

"So, what started off as an acorn has now kind of turned into an oak tree and now we've designated a lot of people and we're going to do a bucket collection at Walsh Park, just before the match."

Continuing, Councillor Pratt explained, "What it's really about is Waterford and Tipperary coming together because I have Kieran O'Connor and Eoin Murphy (WLR's commentators for the game) and Stephen Gleeson and Ken Hogan from TippFM. They'll be meeting us there and supporting us.

"We have the bucket collectors arranged and we're hoping to have, possibly, two All-Ireland camogie players attending as well and they would be Niamh Rockett and Lorraine Bray.

With the Tipperary colours matching those of Ukraine, John will be wearing that jersey at today's match and says all donations for doing so would be greatly appreciated:

"Look, I know that the people of Waterford and Tipperary and those attending won't let us down. As I said, this isn't about me, this is for the Ukraine fund and let's hope we do the best that we can.

"Every cent made will go to the Red Cross."
