The latest GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report for quarter four of 2024 has been released.

The report provides some insights on the outturn for stock levels and vacancy rates across the country, as well as on construction activity, residential transactions, and property prices.

In the 12 months to December 2024, a total of 34,686 new addresses were added to the GeoDirectory database, equating to 1.6% of the total residential stock. When Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford are included, this share rises to 71.6%.

A total of 743 new residential address points were added to the GeoDirectory database in Waterford in 2024.

574 residential buildings were classified as under construction in Waterford in December 2024. Nationally, the largest share of buildings under construction was in Dublin at 18.7% (4,162 buildings). Cork (3,002), Kildare (1,438), Meath (1,312), Louth (1,141), and Galway (1,126) were the other counties with over a thousand buildings under construction at the end of last year.

There were 80,689 dwellings recorded as vacant in Q4 2024, with Waterford third highest nationally at 2.1%.

The residential vacancy rate was 2.1% in Waterford. This was lower than the national average of 3.8%

There were a total of 20,092 derelict units scattered nationwide, with Waterford making up 1.4% of the figure.

1,358 were purchased in Waterford last year, 22.6% of which were new dwellings with an average price of €291,679.
