All 32 councillors in Waterford have voted to materially contravene the 2022-2028 County Development Plan, paving the way for the construction of 51 homes in the Duffcarrick area of Ardmore.
The material contravention was passed at the October Plenary District meeting of Waterford City & County Council at City Hall this afternoon.
Planning permission is being sought from well-known West Waterford developer Michael Ryan for the construction of 51 homes in the local area, amid a severe lack of supply and growing demand.
The initial development consisted of two detached 4-bed bungalows, five detached 2-storey 4-bed houses, nine 2-storey semi-detached 3-bed houses, two 2-storey terraces each with one 2-bed & two 3-bed houses and five 2-storey terraces each with two 2-bed houses and two 3-bed houses.
The planning will be approved on a conditional basis, instead allowing for the construction of 40 homes as opposed to the 51 initially sought by the applicant.
Director of Housing at Waterford City & County Council, Mr. Ivan Grimes, noted to elected representatives that were they to vote against the material contravention, then there would be no choice but for the relevant authorities to reject the planning application, for which a decision was due by this Sunday, October 13th.
The vote is now set to lead to official confirmation of planning permission from the local authority, allowing for the development to proceed in the coming months.
