A Waterford TD says he believes the people of Ireland want to do their best for the tens of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing war - but it's not easy.
David Cullinane told WLR if hotel capacity dries up alternative accommodation will have to be found.
He added:" We have worked with the Irish refugee council who said what they feel a more suitable solution is to look at holiday homes which still exist in their thousands.
"I don't think it is going to be easy. It does put pressure on the tourism sector and that is a commercial decision so it does remain a matter for hotels.
According to integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman who explained that his Department is accommodating over 74,000 refugees and International Protection Applicants in State-funded accommodation. This includes 49,227 Ukrainian refugees and 23,382 asylum seekers with Waterford currently accommodating 1062 refugees as of February.
