Waterford to avail of €25.2m worth of Active Travel funding

The National Transport Authority has announced €290 million in funds for cycling and walking infrastructure this year.

Over €25.2m is being made available towards the delivery of approximately thirty Active Travel schemes in County Waterford.

Included in the Active Travel funding for Waterford for 2024 is €17.5 million as part of the NTA's contribution to the North Quays project.

€1.2m is being allocated for an Active Travel Scheme on the Tramore Ring Road - while the Active Travel Pathfinder Project in Lismore Park is to receive €300,000.

Also included is €320,000 for an Active Travel Scheme in Ballinroad, as well as €300,000 for the Carrick Road, Portlaw.

The news comes as the Government and NTA announced its plan to link over two hundred areas as part of a national cycling plan earlier this year.

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan says the projects that are being funded are helping to transform cities, towns, and villages - making them more attractive, safer, and healthier.
