A homeless charity is welcoming the drop in homeless figures.
The Peter McVerry Trust says it's positive to see even a small fall, after the number went down by 185.
The Department of Housing's revealed 8,914 people were homeless in December.
Of those, 2,451 were children, which represents almost a 4% decrease on November's figures.
Peter McVerry Trust CEO, Pat Doyle says it's good fewer children are on the streets:
"Nobody wants to see children in homeless services so, the figures that were released yesterday for December show a reduction - and they are families and children.
"But what we haven't seen over the last year is any major reduction in the amount of single people leaving homeless services."
In Waterford, 60 people were officially recorded as homeless last month - a drop of three on the previous month.
The Department of Housing statistics also reveal 1,077 families required homeless accommodation last month, a drop of 31 compared to November.
The figures don't include homeless people not engaged with government services, including women in refuge centres and those in direct provision.
Waterford remains the county with the highest number of homeless people in the South East.
It's followed by 56 in Tipperary, 39 in Kilkenny, 30 in Wexford, and 29 in Carlow.
Of the 259 people who presented as homeless to local authorities in the region, there were 45 children.
