Gardai in Waterford are urging people not to travel today.
Road conditions are treacherous right across the county. Gardai say that 4X4 vehicles are struggling in the conditions and are getting stuck.
They're appealing to people not to venture out of housing estates in their cars. People have had to abandon cars blocking access routes for emergency vehicles
Eight to ten inches of snow fell in Waterford overnight and snow is continuing to fall. It's led to drifts of up to eight feet in places. Further accumulations of snow are expected today.
Heavier snow to our South East pushing into Waterford now. Winds have eased somewhat so drifting not as much of an issue #StormEmma pic.twitter.com/HgFbTNuMKu

The officer in charge of Dunmore East Coast Guard says he's never seen anything like the conditions in the county this morning. Jim Griffin says they're currently transporting nurses, doctors and catering staff to the hospital and nursing homes in the City. Gardai are also helping to bring staff to and from University Hospital Waterford and the nearby hotels. They're using an All Terrain Vehicle to provide the transport.
Waterford Council are currently deploying snow ploughs, they have seven at their disposal however they will only be concentrating on the Priority 1 routes including the main N25 and access to the hospital.
