A Waterford-based engineering company has been fined €750,000 after a hotel lift carrying wedding guests collapsed.
A number of family members were trapped inside after the lift installed by Ellickson Engineering Ltd suddenly dropped four floors at the Killarney Plaza Hotel in July 2011.
The victims have suffered ongoing injuries as a result.
Ellickson Engineering Ltd, which had gone into receivership before the accident, was found guilty of a breach of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act last March.
A portion of Ellickson was bought by Waterford company Kilell Ltd, and Kilell was in no way a succesor to the company prosecuted.
A file is now being referred back to the DPP to see if there can be further prosecution.
