A 10 megawatt solar farm is proposed for the Pickardstown area of Tramore.
The proposed Pickardstown Solar Farm consists of 71, 500m2 of solar panels with the capacity to export a maximum of 10 megawatts to the National Grid.
The planning application includes an ESB Substation, a Client-side Substation, a Communications Building, Storage Building and 4 inverters.
The area in question lies to the right on the approach to Tramore on a large expanse of land in the Pickardstown area.
An application has been made in the name of Tornado Electrical Limited, with John Kirwan and Robert Halley named as the directors.
Planning permission was granted in 2016 for the farm with a capacity of half the size of the current application seeing the original capacity of 4 megawatts increase to 10 megawatts.
At the time, the applicant did not proceed with the proposed development given the cost quoted by the ESB to connect to the grid.
A decision is expected by Waterford City and County Council on or before December 11.
