Wetherspoons will open a pub in Waterford on April 26th, it's been confirmed.

It was hoped that the Waterford pub - which is set to be called The Arundel Gate - would open last Christmas.

Work began on the venue in June 2021, with a view to opening in December. However, following a number of delays, the new April opening date has been confirmed by a spokesperson for the chain.

Speaking last year ahead of the construction of the pub, the owners told WLR that a total of €3.8 million would be invested in its development, creating 70 full and part-time jobs.

Arundel Square takes its name from the nearby gate of the same name in Waterford’s ancient city wall. Long-since demolished, the Arundel Gate stood in Arundel Lane, which is immediately north of the pub site.

The pub will be on two floors (ground and first floor) and feature two enclosed courtyard terraced gardens, as well as an open kitchen.
Historical photos and details of local history, as well as artwork and images of local scenes and characters of the town will be displayed in the pub, together with information boards relating to events.
