Waterford Volunteer Centre call out for Local Artist Support in Community Arts Project

In July 2023, Waterford Volunteer Centre attended a workshop facilitated by Amber’s Women’s Refuge at the Waterford Gallery of Art, where participants created 8 point woven stars & they each added their messages of light, hope & solidarity to the stars.

The purpose of these star-weaving workshops is to be a part of the Global Inclusive Community Arts Project – One Million Stars to End Violence, connecting communities across Ireland in solidarity against domestic abuse & all forms of violence.

Each 8-point star woven promotes the project’s 8 points of healthy love within relationships. The first stars made in Waterford were later framed & placed on display in Carlow College as part of the National Exhibition. They are now visible in the Meeting Room in Waterford Volunteer Centre.

Since WVC began their Star Weaving Journey over 50 workshops have been held across Waterford City & County, in Schools, Community Groups, Galleries, & the Waterford Volunteer Centre, where volunteers have contributed to Amber’s One Million Stars Project and an amazing 34,000 stars have been woven & still counting.

Waterford Volunteer Centre would like to present volunteers’ hard work in a City & Countywide Exhibition of the Stars.

They are calling for local artists who would like to volunteer their time & visual artistic skills to help us create & design visual installations for a city & county-wide exhibition in December.
