Waterford is set to welcome hundreds of students to the county for a week-long chamber music programme.

It is run by ConCorda, an international programme for young string musicians, and will take place in the surrounds of Newtown School from the 24th - 30th of July.

The course is open to those aged between 14 and 26 and will provide students with the opportunity to study chamber music, string orchestra, and music improvisation.

The staff is made up of Irish and Internationals experts and includes members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Past pupils of the course include Violinist Michelle Fleming and Violaist Eoghan Schmidt-Martin. Both are founding members of the internationally renowned string quartet, Carducci Quartet.

"The course has worked tirelessly over the years to create a world-class hub of chamber music education, with its reputation drawing an international community of talented young string players and expert instructors and tutors annually to its current Waterford base," Allin Gray, CEO of Irish Association of Youth Orchestras, said.

ConCorda is led by Artistic Director Katherine Hunka, Leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and Course Director Peggy Nolan.

It was founded in 1993 by the late Hugh McGuire. Hugh is the former leader of the London Symphony Orchestra, The BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Allegri String Quartet.
