The 16th Waterford International Film Festival has announced its annual programme.
This year’s festival will be a blend of in-person screenings in the ODEON Cinema in Waterford City and a full diverse digital programme over the course of a week (21-27 November).

Speaking about WIFF 2022, Festival Director, Stephen Byrne said, “ We are delighted to be in a position to return to screenings of films to an audience in the Cinema as well as providing a vast and diverse programme online for all to access and enjoy.
"With our online programme there are 170+ Irish & International Short Films from Award Winning & Debut Filmmakers.
"The online programme also includes a section called, Waterford Connection Shorts, either the film's main players ( Producers, Writers, Director, Cast ) are from Waterford and/or the films were shot in Waterford.
"There is a large number of films to view, a great mix of fiction & documentary choices and with the online programme people can access all of these films from the comfort of their own homes."
Online Screenings take place between 21-27 November and festival goers can register for online programme soon.
The in-person Cinema screenings will take place in the ODEON Cinema in Waterford City on Sat 26th & Sunday the 27th of November.
34 Irish & International films will be presented on those dates. Tickets can only be purchased on the festival's website or directly here.
The festival's short film programmes feature a lot of new work from aspiring and up-and-coming filmmakers.
The in-person events kick off in the ODEON Cinema (Ground Floor) with a Welcome reception at 4 pm on Sat 26 Nov followed by the Screening of ODEON Shorts 1.
The programme opens with a comedy called Wireless by Brian Benjamin Dwyer, starring Pat Nolan (Fair City) & Rose Henderson (Ordinary Love, Nowhere Fast, Penny Dreadful).
Also in their opening programme is Lady Betty directed by Paul McGrath, an animation comedy/horror starring Colm Meany (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gangs of London).
The ODEON cinema will also host two further short film programmes on the 26th & 27 of November.
Viewers will see a blend of local, national, and international films including a film starring the Irish comedian Joe Rooney (Father Ted) called Dead Dog.
International film screenings in the overall programmes include films from the USA, U.K., France, Germany, Turkey, China, Korea, Finland, Italy, Malta, Japan, Australia and many more!
The festival is also the 1st film festival in Ireland to produce a Short Screenplay competition to support and recognise the talent of new and emerging writers of the short story format.
This year, 80 semi-finalists were selected and this list was narrowed down to 20 finalists.
For the 2nd year in a row, the festival produced a movie-themed photography competition and 15 finalists were selected for the Best Cinematic Image category.
Over the course of the weekend, there will be social meet-ups & networking opportunities for filmmakers, artists and festival-goers to attend. On Sunday the 27 of November, there will be an awards presentation in the ODEON Cinema (Ground Floor) to announce the overall winners in the annual competitions. Some of the prizes include awards designed by Waterford Crystal.
