Waterford actors Moe Dunford and Carrie Crowley nominated for IFTAs

Waterford actors Moe Dunford and Carrie Crowley have been nominated for Irish Film and Television Awards, marking the third year in a row for Dungarvan native Dunford.

He's up for Best Actor for his lead role in Nightride, while Carrie Crowley is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for An Cailín Ciúin. 

Smother, in which Crowley also stars, is up for Best TV Drama.

The winners will be announced via a virtual awards ceremony, which will broadcast on Virgin Media One on March 12th.

The premise is that small time dealer Budge (Dunford) tries to pull one last deal with cash borrowed from a dangerous loan shark. When the handover goes catastrophically wrong, Budge finds himself in a race against time to find his missing product and get a new buyer before the loan shark tracks him down.

This is Moe’s ‘three in a row’ nomination for Best Actor. He previously won in the category for his role in Patricks Day. He also won best supporting actor for Vikings.

Nightride, a real-time thriller will be available to view on Netflix from March 4th.

Carrie Crowley is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in An Cailín Ciúin, which last week picked up two awards at the renowned Berlin Film Festival.

It also received a special mention from the children's jury.

It's the first time an Irish language film won an award at the Berlin Festival, a world renowned showcase of cinema.

Waterford native Carrie plays the foster mother in the film, in which Catherine Clinch is also nominated in the lead role. Carrie spoke to Geoff last week and you can listen back on that interview here.

Moe Dunford in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"

Moe Dunford also stars in a reboot of   The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the streaming giant. It's directed by David Blue Garcia and was filmed in 2020 in Bulgaria.

The remake takes place years after the shocking events of the original and Leatherface hasn't been seen or heard of since. Dungarvan's Moe Dunford will star alongside Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), and Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner).
