The Summer Stars Reading Adventure is back for children across Waterford with celebrations taking place today.

Summer Stars is a reading-based challenge that takes place free of charge through public libraries every summer.

A range of events will be happening across the next few months to celebrate the programme.

One of which includes Andy McCloskey being live from John Roberts Square from 12-3pm today.

There will be a library tent with an arts and crafts table, rhyme time at 12, storytelling at 1 and 2, and the opportunity to join your local library between 12 and 3.

Europe Direct has supplied 200 cupcakes for the event and sponsored a €100 book token prize.

If you show your library card or else join the library at the tent, you will be entered in a draw to win the book token.

About Summer Stars

The 2022 adventure began on June 13th and will run until September 2nd through all 12 libraries in Waterford.

Summer Stars aims to encourage children to keep reading throughout the summer months.

Children must register at their closest library and can pick up a Reading Card to help them to track their progress.

In September Waterford Library Staff will visit schools to present participants with a Summer Stars medal and certificate of achievement.
