Ray Recommends: September's Irish music picks from The Shift

Hello readers, Ray C here with a few new Irish tunes as heard on my show The Shift - which got released this September for you to hear and support.

State Of Mind – Falling

It’s not very often that a musician would send me an email to tell me all about someone else’s music, it’s pretty rare actually, well for me it is. But this is one of those times. Back at the start of August, I got an email asking me to take a listen to an electronic dance/ alt-pop track from Zena O’Brien and Jade Caswell who goes by the name of State Of Mind.

I did and it is brilliant. I could sit up there with any of the mainstream “dance” releases out.

Barefoot Gypsies – Be Free

This is a debut single from the Barefoot Gypsies who are Luc & Bobbi. It was released after they played Electric Picnic this year. How cool is that?

You know sometimes music and musicians can be very detailed in their sound which is great but, stripped-back fundamentals can get the job done just as good. Be Free does just that. It’s alternative, soulful folk and I can’t seem to stop playing it over and over.

Give it a listen your ears will thank you.

Sample Answer – Jesus

It’s been a few years since we heard new music from the man known as Sample Answer.

His music influencers range from The Beatles to Jay-Z and if you listen back to any of his previous tracks you can clearly hear it.

Sample moved to London in his late teens to pursue music, playing open mic nights every day and sleeping rough as well as dealing with homelessness for years, he released his debut EP 'Good Boy' back in 2015 which gathered millions of streams and led to gigs at the Grand Social and Whelan’s, performing at Other Voices and Electric Picnic and supporting the likes of Peter Doherty and Damien Rice.

He has now returned home after a few years, having overcome his addictions, the pandemic, poverty deaths, and hardships with new music and a headline gig in The Grand Social on the 3rd of November. I for one am looking forward to loads more new tracks from Sample Answer

Winnie Ama – Don’t Worry

I only got my hands on this one in the last few days and it's due out on September 30th but I wanted to include her. It’s my first-time hearing of Winnie, born and raised in Belfast she’s been around a while with features on Music Week UK Club Charts along with support from the big national stations both home and abroad. Winnie’s music takes influence from some of the soulful greats like Ella, Stevie, and Nina. By the time you read this I’m sure her soul-fulled RnB cracker of a tune will be released so, I’ll leave all her details below for you to check out.
