Ray Recommends: February's Irish music picks from The Shift

Hello it's Ray C here and I would like to introduce you to some newly released Irish music that have featured on my show The Shift over the month of February. Some of the artists you may know and some you may only be discovering for the first time. Either way, Enjoy!

The Art Crimes Band- Guy Like You

The Art Crimes Band have been going for many years. In 2021 they released their first single in over five years which was a track called In The Dark Of The Evening which I absolutely love, it’s good I would use it as one of the first few tracks in my sets when I’m out and about Dj’ing. Their first outing in 2022 came at the start of the month and it’s another groovy soulful RnB number. The song was born through the band’s vocalist swiping left on Tinder! Isnt it mad where people get inspiration from? I Hope you dig this as much as I do.

Viscose – I.L.Y

I was playing this track in my office today and someone randomly came in and said, that’s a catchy tune. He was right, it is catchy and so was Viscose’s last single BEEN THERE. Viscose has an ear for a good tune because Viscose’s love of dance, house and pop music stems from his love of LGBTQ and pop culture. This is only Viscose 3rd single release. The future looks promising if Viscose keeps on the Nu-Disco/Pop/Dance vibe. It works!

The Kost – Nowhere

This is the debut single from Waterford’s newest band and it's deadly! This four-piece consists of Baylea Grace, Oisin Fortune, Ronan Stacey and Conor Stacey.  Playing guitar and synth-driven energetic, feel-good indie pop music filled with catchy hooks and choruses for the ages, taking inspiration from bands such as The Killers, Coldplay and MGMT.

One Morning In August – A Wasted Love

I’ve been getting releases from these lads for a few years now and they never disappoint me. They were one of the acts that featured on last year's Waterford Music Week here on WLR and will again this March. OMIA always bringing solid releases that seem to be evolving yet keeping there great layered melodies and harmonies. In October 2020 they announced they had signed to Cork-based label FIFA Records who also have Frank & Walters, Power of Dreams, Emperor of Ice cream on their books. Their latest single was released on Valentine's day exclusively on Band Camp and the newly formed music hub MINM which like Bandcamp look after independent artist when it comes to sales of their tracks.
