Normal People star Paul Mescal's GAA shorts are being auctioned in an attempt to raise money for Ukrainian filmmakers.

The infamous shorts are being put under the hammer along with a signed script of the first episode and a signed hardback of scripts.

The online auctions began at 9 this morning and will close at 6pm on Sunday, July 17th.

The blue and yellow shorts represent the colours of Roscommon, Tipperary, Clare and of course, Ukraine.

The auction was organised by Orla Murphy who gathered a group of independent Irish filmmakers to raise awareness and funds for the crisis in Ukraine. The group has already raised over €10,000 to support their colleagues who are being affected by the war.

“In sending these funds to our fellow filmmakers we are also sending a message of solidarity, hope and respect,” Orla said.

Normal People was BBC's most streamed show of 2020, with 62.7 million streams from its launch in April to December.

The auction is taking place via a website called Easy Live Auctions.

All funds raised in this auction will go via the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland to the Ukraine Appeal and to the ICFR Ukraine appeal.
