A new stamp to mark the Centenary of the Irish Civil War has been issued by An Post.
It features ‘Commencement of Hostilities’ by Irish artist Mick O'Dea and is the latest in a series marking Ireland's Decade of Centenaries.
The Civil War broke out because of disagreements in relation to the Anglo-Irish treaty.
It began on June 28th, 1922 when the National Army opened fire on the Four Courts which was occupied by anti-Treaty forces. The war lasted until May 24th, 1923.
The Public Record Office was destroyed when the Four Courts was shelled. It is this incident that features on the stamp.
An envelope was also designed by Image Now to mark the Centenary.
Both are available on the An Post website.
