A Carrick-on-Suir woman was been crowned as Miss Waterford 2022 in a selection event held last week.

Tara Lacey, a veterinary nurse at Suirside Veterinary Clinic, took the title.

She will represent Waterford among 36 other finalists that qualified for the Diamond Jubilee Miss Ireland competition.

This year's theme is 'Our World Our Future' with the focus being on the environment and global citizenship.

Finalists will have to participate in challenges that test their skills across a range of areas including debating, modeling, and sport.

According to the Dungarvan Observer, environmental challenges must also be undertaken. Finalists must get involved in beach clean-ups, ethical upcycling, and educational pieces. A brand new Miss Eco Ireland sash will be awarded.

The competition is due to be held on August 20th at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

The winner will go on to represent Ireland in the Miss World Festival which is televised in over 100 countries across the world.

They will receive a contract with an agency and a variety of prizes including jewellery, gowns, beauty and hair products, and professional photo shoots. As well as this, the winner will jet off to the Maldives on an all-expenses-paid trip to do a photo shoot later in Autumn.

Tara's colleagues at the Veterinary Clinic are excited to watch her progress in the competition, stating “We look forward to following Tara along in her journey to the Miss Ireland 2022 final in Dublin” on their social media page.
