Learning Waves has started accepting applications for their 2022 Graduate Programme.
The training provider for the independent radio sector has received funding for the programme, which will see 10 graduates provided with training and coaching.
The graduates will be placed in different local, regional or national radio stations for a period of five months during which time they will receive a monthly payment of €1,500.
Students learn to work on their own initiative and to become comfortable with industry-standard studio equipment.
"Such partnerships between broadcasters, trainers and educators help foster accurate and reliable journalism while also enabling graduates to gain practical skills and experience, and learn about the broadcasting industry," CEO of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, Celene Craig said.
Over the past 18 years, Learning Waves has worked alongside all 34 Independent Radio Stations, Skillnet Ireland, the BAI, and multiple media sales houses across the country.
The network received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the IMRO Radio Awards in 2021 for its support of the industry since it began, including its role in assisting the sector during Covid 19.
In 2021, Shannon Redmond from Carlow graduated from TV and Media Production in Carlow IT, before being chosen for the Learning Waves Graduate Programme. Speaking about her experience with KCLR FM and the programme, Shannon said: “I loved every minute of it. My experience was absolutely incredible and I think when opportunities like this come your way you just have to go for it.”
