They're back! The much-awaited third and final season of Derry Girls airs on Channel 4 tonight.
The sitcom, set in Derry in the 1990s, has been a massive hit in both Ireland the UK, and the first season is currently available on Netflix.
The show, created by Lisa McGee, follows the lives of a group of school friends against the backdrop of the Troubles. The first two seasons had a Waterford interest in the form of Jamie Beamish who played camera shop worker Ciarán.
The cast Clare Devlin (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle Mallon (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell), Erin Quinn (Saoirse Monica Jackson) and Orla McCool (Louisa Clare Harland) along with the ‘wee English fella’ James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn) all make a return. Season 3 follows their escapades as summer looms and they await their GCSE results.
In Episode 1, you can expect a homicidal cat called Seamus, and some surprise guest cameos.
Ahead of its airing, the third series is getting positive reviews across the board, with NME Magazine saying that while the show will be missed, "the first episode at least proves that the funniest, sharpest sitcom on TV is also bowing out on a high."
Derry Girls airs on Channel 4 at 9.15pm tonight.
