In this edition of Ollie's Autozone we take a look at the new "Skoda Octavia" now available from George Corbett Motors Waterford.
The Skoda Octavia is a central car in the Czech manufacturer’s line-up. It first appeared as a hatchback in 1996 (there was also a 1950s saloon of the same name) it’s been the Skoda’s biggest-selling model worldwide,appealing to anybody with a keen eye on practicality who’s looking for a good value family car.
It might have started off in the budget market but it has steadily pushed upmarket and very successfully so to challenge all comers.
To maintain this upwardly-mobile direction, the latest Octavia has an advanced kit out of driver tech, as well a plusher interior and a sharper kind of coupé look than ever before. As ever it share's its platform with the Golf, albeit with the distance between the front and rear axles stretched to increase passenger space, and with a bit more metal added to the tail end to make more room for luggage. Road tests have given it a 5 star rating with most reviewers.
For now, four engines are available: a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol (badged 1.0 TSI 110) with 109bhp, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (badged 1.5 TSI 150) with 148bhp, and 2.0-litre TDI diesels with either 113bhp or 148bhp. The engine range will expand further with mild and plug-in hybrids plus a high-performance vRS with a selection of propulsion options.
