Waterford man's 50kms for Make-A-Wish

Waterford man's 50kms for Make-A-Wish

Gracedieu native JP Tierney has successfully run 50kms around a Waterford housing estate to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. Within the confines of the 2km radius JP, who works as a bar manager at O’ Donnacha’s in Kilmeaden, ran 121 laps of Carn Glas Way in Gracedieu, with support from his wife Nicola and their neighbours.

Starting at 8am on Saturday (25th April) he ran continuously for over 5 hours to complete the 50 kilometres. It was a massive physical and mental challenge which he completed just after 1pm

JP managed to raise almost €2,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation which aims to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, to bring hope, strength and happiness.

JP says:

I am very aware of the struggles that all charities are facing at this time of uncertainty in the world. I am also acutely aware of how lucky I am to be able to run everyday However, there are many children in life that cannot take fitness as a given, and who, due to the limitations resulting from illness, cannot travel at all.

Make-A-Wish Ireland work to make dreams come true for so many children like this. Families who are going through the shock of diagnosis, the agony of treatment, and having to deal with endless doctor’s appointments, hospitalisation and the added worry and stress that brings, can reach out to Make-A-Wish for hope, strength and happiness. Make-A-Wish steps in to create dreams in the granting of wishes to so many children. Whether their wish is to meet their hero, visit their favourite theme park, or be a vet, a singer or a star, this charity gives children something to look forward to, and in doing so create lasting happy memories for entire families

While we are facing a sense of uncertainty today due to Covid-19, there are so many children who face uncertainty every day of their lives. And while the world around them is coming to a halt, they still wish for their dreams to come true – just to be a child for a day
