Dr Tara Shine

Dr Tara Shine is an American Irish environmental scientist, who is taking a stand against climate change for not only Ireland, but the entire world and human race.

Her work focuses on the impact that harm to the environment can have on the lives of everyday people. She's worked on the Ghlúin go Glúin programme (Generation to generation in Irish), which bring grandparents into schools to teach valuable life skills.

Her aim is to teach kids to grow food, eat locally and in season, cook healthy meals,  waste less food and to make, repair and reuse things, skills that have been lost in our modern culture.

The current reigning Rose of Tralee (and Waterford woman!) Kirsten Mate Maher is changing the face of a 'typical' Irish woman.

While the relevancy of the competition been questioned in the past, Kirsten has brought a new life to what it means to be a role model.

She represents an Irish woman who is adventurous, who is sporty, who is strong and is proud of celebrating the things that make us different, as well as the things that make us the same.

Su Carty

Irish women in sport have gone on to prove that they are at the top of their game, rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest and best people in the business.

One such person is Su Carty, who was appointed the first World Rugby Women's Development Manager in January 2009. Since she took on the role, female participation in the game has jumped from just over 4% of the playing population to 25% of the global playing population, according to her website.

Su has helped pave the way for Irish female athletes globally.

Iseult Ward & Aoibheann O'Brien

Iseult and Aoibheann are the geniuses behind FoodCloud.

How it works is simple: FoodCloud matches supermarkets who have good food that will go to waste with a charity, who can respond and accept the offer and collect the food from the store. This allows charities to provide fresh, good food to those who need it and minimises the levels of food waste in Ireland.

Dil Wickremasinghe

Dil has one message: Use your voice, stand up for what you want and believe that you can achieve everything you want to.

She encourages everyone to focus on their mental health, in a bid to allow themselves to live fuller and authentic lives. Her positivity and courage to speak out on these issues has sent shockwaves through Ireland, making her one of the most inspirational speakers in the country.

In her Ted Talk, she said "Start today. Look after your mental health. Invest in it. Train it so that you can go the distance, because not only can you live a fuller life, but you can also be able to cope with whatever life throws at you."
