The IMRO National Radio Awards #IMRO17 shortlist was announced today and WLR is in the running for two awards.
Teresanne O'Reilly has been shortlisted in the New Irish Music / Musical Talent Programme for 'The Drive Home Live Sessions'.
Teresanne presents The Drive Home on WLR every weekday from 3-6pm – – it’s got a great mix of music, plenty of prizes (including a nice chunk of cash every day on The MIX) and regular news, sport and traffic and travel updates.
Off air, Teresanne also works as Assistant Programme Director and Head of Online Content which keeps her busy behind the scenes.
Teresanne is from Tramore, went to school in Waterford City, studied in UCC, has worked in Hong Kong and Dublin but loves being back home in Waterford.
On finding out about her nomination Teresanne said, "this nomination has been a nice round off to a successful and exciting weekend of radio covering the All Ireland Final and Homecoming for the Waterford team. It's an honour to be shortlisted in the IMRO National Radio Awards especially when you consider the caliber of radio shows on local, regional and national stations across the whole country."
The second nomination is for WLR's Radio Drama Terms and Conditions was written and produced by Waterford man Noel Kelly.
Award-winning actor, Lorraine Murphy plays Maura, who has reached a turning point in her life in the play set in Waterford.
The drama is a simple tale of a woman who once defined her life only in terms of her husband and her children, but now asks ,Now, who am I?
Sound was by David Hayes and Paul Grant, the executive Producer, is Michael Grant.
It was broadcast on WLR last October as part of Waterford's Imagine Arts Festival 2016.
This has been a record year for entries for the radio awards. 90 Judges have spent the past week deliberating over the record number of 677 entries for the IMRO Radio Awards 2017. Having listened to almost 295 hours of the best of radio from both sides of the border, the 2017 Radio Awards have been the most hotly contested in their 17 years of existence. National, local and DAB broadcasters, producers and station staff have worked tirelessly to present the best of their work as an entry to this year’s awards. Over 185 nominees are today announced as the #IMRO17 shortlist.
The 2017 IMRO Radio Awards (formerly known as the PPI Radio Awards) will take place on Friday October 6th at the Lyrath Estate Hotel at a gala dinner where the secret golden envelopes will be opened to reveal the winners.
Top names in Irish radio both on and off air make the trip to Kilkenny for the biggest night of the year in the radio industry in Ireland. Prior to the night, the Hall of Fame inductees will be announced on Friday 22nd September at a special event to be held at the BAI offices in Dublin.
Speaking about the judging process and quality of the entries, Awards Committee Chairperson Sean Murtagh said “The record number of entries is an indicator of the continuing level of support the radio industry has for the Awards. The judges, who are all drawn from the Irish radio industry, all commented on the quality of entries this year which made for a difficult decision process.”
