For their Croke Park date of the 'Stones – No Filter' tour, The Rolling Stones have announced The Academic as support for the gig. The Rolling Stones ‘No Filter’ tour opens in Dublin on 17 May before heading to the UK, with other major shows taking place in Germany, France, Czech Republic and Poland this summer.
The Academic - Craig Fitzgerald (vox/guitar), Dean Gavin (drums) and brothers Matt (lead guitar) and Stephen Murtagh (bass) - will open for The Rolling Stones on the first night of the No Filter tour in Croke Park on 17 May.
Speaking of the announcement today The Academic said: “How do we feel about playing a show with The Rolling Stones at Croke Park? I think we are all still getting over that phone call! To be sharing the stage with the greatest rock and roll band of all time in a venue that we’ve always dreamed about performing in is a bit surreal. We grew up on their music. Now that we’re playing Croker with them it’s a dream fulfilled!”
Westmeath’s favourite indie outfit The Academic have come roaring into 2018 with the release of their debut album ‘Tales From The Backseat’. Going straight to No.1 in the Irish album charts, it has received critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.
After selling out shows across the US and Europe this year, the band are currently in the middle of a sold out UK Tour @theacademic / www.theacademic.net
Part two of the ‘STONES - NO FILTER’ tour, sponsored by Jeep®, sponsor of The Rolling Stones European tours since 2014, will see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood back on the road, continuing on from their hugely successful sold out European tour last year.
