"Cow Cuddling" is a new craze that many people are turning to in these difficult times.

The activity is meant to promote positivity, releasing oxytocin in humans, creating a calming effect. The larger the animal you hug the bigger the buzz. In these times when people are practicing social distancing, and hugging friends and family is discouraged, people are turning to the practice to get their dose of social bonding.

The wellness trend is said to have started in The Netherlands, where it is called koe knuffelen (cow cuddling) with specialist farms popping up across the countryside. However not every cow is suitable for hugging, and each cow has to be selected for their personality.

Research from the BBC explained: "Cow cuddling is believed to promote positivity and reduce stress by boosting oxytocin in humans, the hormone released in social bonding. The calming effects of curling up with a pet or emotional support animal, it seems, are accentuated when cuddling with larger mammals."
