Gavin James was the only Irish artist to play at Coachella in California last weekend, sharing the stage with a number of other artists as part of his set - DJs Alan Walker and Steve Aoki as well as Noah Cyrus, Conor Maynard, Mako and Juliander.
Gavin is now heading to Brazil to play Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo but he will be back in Ireland this summer when he makes a very welcome return to Live at the Marquee on the 16th of June. James’ new single 'Always' is out now and his new album is set to be released later this summer.
Since the release of his debut album ‘Bitter Pill’ Gavin has sold over 2 million singles worldwide, amassed over half a billion streams on Spotify alone and performed over 500 shows to over 3.2 million people at festivals and sold out tours across US, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia, Gavin James has established himself as one of the leading breakthrough Irish artists of the past year. Given his captivating live performances, it’s no surprise Gavin James has found fans in many of his fellow musical peers and; as a result, has been invited to support acts including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Niall Horan amongst others, as well as being invited to collaborate on tracks with Alan Walker (on the summer smash ‘Tired’) and on Australian Hip Hop act Bliss n Eso’s Aria Award winning and multi platinum single ‘Moments’. His smash hit ‘Nervous’ hit No.1 everywhere from Holland to Brazil.
Having started out playing Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin covers in the garden shed, Gavin James drew the short straw when he was chosen as the singer of his teenage band, and learnt his subsequent solo craft the hard way. Inspired by local heroes like Damien Rice and classic, grafting Soul artists such as Sam Cooke, he would play Dublin’s pubs virtually 7 nights a week during college, in a marathon of 3-hour shows. Growing in confidence, his own material then began to draw an impassioned following: Gavin’s first ever single won the Choice Prize for ‘Song Of The Year’, stayed on the charts for over 6 months and culminated with 2014’s #1-charting, ‘Live at Whelans’ album: a venue he used to sneak inside when underage, but returned to as a rapturously-received headliner. Gavin James released his eagerly-anticipated debut album, ‘Bitter Pill’ on March 11 2016 - reaching Top 5 status, certified Platinum and winner of Choice Music Prize’s ‘Song of the Year’ in Ireland in 2013 and 2016.
