GAVIN JAMES

Making a very welcome return to the marquee this year is Gavin James who will take to the stage on Saturday 16 June 2018. Tickets go on sale this Friday 9 February at 9am.

Following a whirlwind 20 months since the release of his debut album ‘Bitter Pill’ which saw Gavin James sell over 2 million singles worldwide, amass over half a billion streams on Spotify alone and perform over 500 shows to over 3.2 million people at festivals and sold out tours across US, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia, Gavin James has established himself as one of the leading breakthrough Irish artists of the past year. Given his captivating live performances, it’s no surprise Gavin James has found fans in many of his fellow musical peers and; as a result, has been invited to support acts including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Niall Horan amongst others, as well as being invited to collaborate on tracks with Alan Walker (on the summer smash ‘Tired’) and on Australian Hip Hop act Bliss n Eso’s Aria Award winning and multi platinum single ‘Moments’. There’s no doubt from all the achievements outlined above alongside his smash hit ‘Nervous’ hitting No.1 everywhere from Holland to Brazil, that the foundations have been set for Gavin James to become a global superstar in 2018 and beyond.

Having started out playing Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin covers in the garden shed, Gavin James drew the short straw when he was chosen as the singer of his teenage band, and learnt his subsequent solo craft the hard way. Inspired by local heroes like Damien Rice and classic, grafting Soul artists such as Sam Cooke, he would play Dublin’s pubs virtually 7 nights a week during college, in a marathon of 3-hour shows. Growing in confidence, his own material then began to draw an impassioned following: Gavin’s first ever single won the Choice Prize for ‘Song Of The Year’, stayed on the charts for over 6 months and culminated with 2014’s #1-charting, ‘Live at Whelans’ album: a venue he used to sneak inside when underage, but returned to as a rapturously-received headliner. Gavin James released his eagerly-anticipated debut album, ‘Bitter Pill’ on March 11 2016 - reaching Top 5 status, certified Platinum and winner of Choice Music Prize’s ‘Song of the Year’ in Ireland in 2013 and 2016. The first single from Gavin’s new album (due out in May) Hearts on Fire can be currently heard on the airwaves in Ireland and America.

KRAFTWERK 3-D

After their worldwide hugely successful 3-D concert tours, the Electro pioneers Kraftwerk will play Live at the Marquee Cork on 11 July 2018, their only Irish date. Tickets go on sale this Thursday 8 February at 9am.

Bringing together music and performance art, Kraftwerk 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.” In January 2018 Kraftwerk won a Grammy (best dance/electronic album) for "3-D The Catalogue," a high-tech recreation of their back albums. The multi-media project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums. By the mid 1970s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic‚ sound scapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations. With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century. Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from Electro to Hip Hop, from Techno to SynthPop. In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert, Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine. Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. The 3-D concert series at MoMA was followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall (London), Akasaka Blitz (Tokyo) Opera House (Sydney), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris), Neue National Galerie (Berlin) and Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao). In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
