There's A Very Special International Event Coming To Waterford This Weekend..
And we're thrilled that we'll be there to be a part of it!
The GAA World Games are coming to WIT Arena this coming week, Monday July 29th to Thursday August 1st and to kick it all off, there will be an opening parade in the city this Sunday July 28th.
We'll be broadcasting a Déise Today special live from the parade thanks to UPMC Whitfield.
Damien Tiernan and the WLR Street Team will be live in John Roberts Square from 4pm to 7pm soaking up the atmosphere.
Damien will interviewing a variety of guests involved in this amazing international event, including participants from all over the world involved in the games, the GAA and our sponsors from UPMC Whitfield, who do great work at improving the health of our community.
Starting in Waterside, the parade will go through the Manor/Parnell Street junction, up past the Apple Market and Michael Street, before finishing at the vibrant Arundel Square. We’re live from 4-7pm but the parade continues on until 9.15pm that night with live music and entertainment throughout the night.
This international event is a celebration of the participation in GAA games by athletes from all over the world including Russia, Argentina & Singapore and if you're around, you should definitely come down and join in on the celebrations!
What Else Is Going On
As well as lots of WLR goodies, the Street Team will have UPMC merch such as baseball caps and pens.
We'll also have facepainting for the kids, giant Jenga and Connect 4 and much more.
