THE LATEST NEWS ON CORONAVIRUS ON THE ISLAND OF IRELAND

February 28th, 2020

1pm

Passengers who sat near a woman who later tested positive for COVID-19 have been told to self-isolate.

The woman arrived into Dublin Airport from Italy and then traveled to Northern Ireland, where she first sought medical assistance.

Passengers who sat within two rows of the woman are to be monitored on a daily basis.

Other passengers on the flight have been informed and issued advice.

The Department of Health's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, says there is still no plan to introduce screening at airports:

"Temperature checking will not happen at Dublin Airport because it doesn't work. In infectious diseases, only a certain percentage of people will have a fever."
