1. Arlene Foster to step down as First Minister
Arlene Foster says she’s stepping down as DUP leader and Northern Ireland’s First Minister. It follows calls from within her party for a leadership contest. She’ll step away from heading the DUP on the 28th May – but will remain first minister until the end of June. In a statement, Mrs Foster’s described serving the people of Northern Ireland as ‘the privilege of my life.’
2. Details of re-opening of country - €9 meal could be scrapped
Speaking ahead of a Cabinet subcommittee meeting this evening, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan said there won’t be a distinction between wet pubs and pubs that serve food when the hospitality industry is allowed to reopen. Meanwhile Taoiseach Micheál Martin has indicated that large parts of the hospitality sector are likely to reopen in June.
3. Concern over Falcon Real Estate's committment to North Quays project.
The developer has until the 15th May to sign the contract for the multimillion euro regeneration. However city councillor Jason Murphy is concerned by what he calls the “silence” coming from Falcon in recent months.
4. Shuttle bus for COVID vaccination appointments launched
Bus Éireann, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced a new shuttle bus service to make travel easier for COVID-19 vaccination appointments at the Waterford Vaccination Centre at the WIT Arena.
5. Fraudsters scam person out of almost 5,000 in Waterford
A person in Waterford lost near €5,000 after being told their PPS number was linked to drugs and money laundering. Gardaí are asking people to be aware of scams where people are pretending to be from An Garda Síochána, Social Welfare, the Attorney General’s Office and other businesses.
6. Martin Scorcese becomes TikTok sensation
Legendary film maker Martin Scorcese has become a TikTok sensation after his daughter Francesca posted a video of him trying to guess what feminine products are used for. His daughter says it's just part one of a series of clips starring the famous director. Bring it on!!
