1. Member of Cabinet tests positive for Covid-19

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has tested positive for Covid-19. A spokesperson says he has no symptoms and is self-isolating.

2. Post Brexit trade deal could be agreed by this evening

“We are in the final phase,” one EU official said. Asked whether this meant a deal later today, a source close to the talks said: “Very likely, yes.”

3. Inspectors visit pubs and restaurants

The Department of Social Protection was asked to conduct site visits of hospitality businesses on Christmas week to ensure staff had signed off the pandemic unemployment payment (PUP).

4. Over 350 Irish residents stranded in UK return home on repatriation flights

Two special repatriation flights have returned over 350 Irish residents who were stranded in Britain. The consular flights, operated by Ryanair and Aer Lingus, carried passengers along with a number of people who were accommodated on ferry routes.

5. Bray and De Búrca winners of October Granville Hotel GAA Award

All Star defenders Lorraine Bray and Tadhg De Búrca are the joint winners of the October WLR Granville Hotel GAA Award. De Búrca was man of the match in Waterford’s Munster semi-final win over Cork at Semple Stadium. Lorraine Bray was at her brilliant best as Waterford reached the quarter finals of the All Ireland camogie championship for the third year in a row.
